Angry Birds

It is raining season here in the state of Washington (ha!), which means I have to be creative or research Pinterest (LOL) for ideas to keep the kids entertained.

So I saw the Angry Birds game, the cans painted like the pigs and then they had a ball painted as the red bird, but I was at the craft store and saw the red bird stuffed animal and decided to buy it instead of painting a ball.

I spray painted the cans green, but honestly, if I had to do it again I would just paint them with the acrylic paint. It was a pain in the rear to spray them and I had to apply several coats and I was silly enough for not realizing that I should have painted one more can to stand on the very top... but at that point I was fed up and thought that 5 cans would have to enough. My little man is happy, so that is all that matters, right?

Puzzle Magnets

I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was pretty clever to use the pieces of puzzles that are not completed anymore to make magnets.

I bought heavy duty magnets from Joanns and hot glued them to the puzzle pieces.

And they are a success!

Pure

Just because I had to leave the giveaway post up for so long, I was itching to blog - go figure. So much going on during those 10 days... a lot of crafting with the kids, cooking and crocheting, of course.

I was talking to a couple of friends and the idea of creating a new line of products made from natural fibers and materials came up and being the kind of person that I am, I jumped right in. I purchased new yarn, some fabric, jute, burlap and begged my husband to make me some more wooden buttons and once the kids were in bed I started creating like crazy.

I worked on the new line for several days, then after a push from my photographer I took pictures of the new collection, edited them.

So here it is, my new line, called "Just Be Happy Pure":

Boot Cuffs - Free Pattern

Boot Cuffs Crochet Pattern by Alessandra Hayden
Copyright January 15, 2013
www.justbehappycrochet.com

Please do not sell this pattern. If you sell finished items made from this pattern, I ask that you kindly give me credit for the pattern.

Difficulty: Easy
Gauge: Gauge is not important for this project. Yay!

Abbreviations:
- chain = ch
- half double crochet = hdc
- single crochet = sc
- slip stitch = sl st
- back loops only = blo
- row = R

Note: by working on the back loops only your cuffs will have a nice textured ribbed look.

Materials:

- I (5.5mm) and H (5.00mm) crochet hooks, scissors
- Your favorite Worsted Weight Yanr (I used Vanna's Choice and Impeccable for these)

Main Part:

Start with I (5.5mm) hook. Ch 14.
R1: Turn, skip 2 ch, hdc in the remaining stitches (12 hdc)
R2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in BLO across (12 hdc)
Repeat R2 until the stretched cuff fits around the widest part of your calf. (My calf is 14" and I crochet a total of 19 rows)
Ch 1, turn, slip stitch both ends of the cuff together.
Do not fasten off.
Make sure the right side is facing you (where you slip stitched the cuff to form a circle will be inside)
Now, using a H (5.0mm) hook:
Ch 1, sc in the end of each row of the cuff, join.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, join. (repeat 4x)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Top of the Cuff:
Use I (5.5mm) hook.
Join the yarn, Ch 2, hdc in the end of each row of the cuff, join.
Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Suggestions:

To change the look of your boot cuffs, add a scalloped edge to the top.
Join the yarn with a sl st, skip 2 stitches, dc 5 into the 3rd st, skip 2 sts, sl st.
Repeat all the way around your boot cuff, but before you are all the way to the end, count the stitches to make sure you have an even look. You might need to skip 3 stitches instead of 2 to end evenly.
Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
Enjoy!

Recent Work

Busy "crochet season" is great for new pictures. Here are some of the new additions:

Vintage Cloche:
 Fireman's Hat:

 Love Knot Wrap:

Another Vintage Cloche in a different color combo:

I am working on a few things for MYSELF, which is amazing, I don't make a lot of stuff for myself because I am always too busy making things for the shop or my kids, so I am excited and I am also excited because I have a new pattern coming out soon, it's being tested right now and it will be posted here as a free pattern. So stay tuned!
