Free Doll Beanie Pattern

The other day I cleaned up part of my yarn stash and ended up with a tote bag full of scraps. While watching my daughter play dress up with her doll, I had the idea of using those scraps to make some little hats and scarves for her doll and extra ones so she can have friends over for a tea party with the dolls and then they can all have some hats and scarves to take home.

After posting a picture of the doll and the little hats on instagram and facebook I got asked for the pattern, so I decided to write it up for you!

Yarn: Worsted Weight
Hook: H-8/5.0mm

Size:  Hat made to fit a 14.5" (36.8cm) doll

Gauge: 7 hdc and 6 rows =  2" square

Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Sl St = Slip Stitch

Round 1: Starting with a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as a hdc now and throughout) and work 7 hdc into the ring, join with a sl st to top of beginning ch-2 to join round. Tug up tightly to close. (8 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as join, 2 hdc in each hdc around, sl st to top of beginning ch-2 to join round. (16 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 2,  2 hdc in next hdc, *hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * around, sl st to top of beginning ch-2 to join this round. (24 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc around, sl st to top of beginning ch-2 to join round. (24 hdc)
Rounds 5-9: Repeat round 4.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Optional: to add a little more detail to the hat, you can do a round of slip stitch after round 9 and you can also add a little pom pom.

Happy Crocheting!
