Crochet Embellishment

Since my last batch of cards (see them here) I haven't stopped thinking about crochet and cards. I had a pack of cards + envelopes that I bought at the "deal aisle" at Michael's for $2 and just thought they would be perfect for this project.

I cut a piece from the bottom (front) of the card.

Then I punched holes, I just eyeballed it, but tried to make sure they were evenly spaced.

Then with a 3.5mm hook and worsted weight wool yarn, I started to crochet.

I first crocheted through the loops to make the base, with 2 single crochets between each hole punched on the card, then I turned and made a row of single crochet and turned again and made half double crochet shells.

Camping Folks

Yep, that's what the Just Be Happy family members are:  we are camping folks! Now the our kids are not babies anymore, we feel like we can enjoy camping.

We have gone camping 4 times since Memorial Day weekend, with friends or just our family. We like to explore new places and enjoy each other's company.

We have some camping rules: no internet, no tv or any kind of electronics. That's right, we don't bring a tablet, laptop, portable dvd player or anything of that nature. We do have our phones, but that's for calling/ receiving calls in case of emergency.

When we are camping, we go fishing, we play, we eat, take pictures (me), the kids color, play with each other, build castles and so forth, you get the idea.

And it feels SO GOOD to spend time together as a family, to appreciate what we have home because when you are camping you don't have all the luxury, it's fun and I feel like we are making so many good memories that one day we will look back and they will make us smile fondly.

Crochet Flower Card

Almost a year ago (August 1, 2012) I blogged about drawing vases for my son and glueing buttons to make flowers, yesterday for some reason I felt the need to make some cards and I wanted to use crochet flowers.

I bought some plain white cards at the craft store and with a black Sharpie I drew different vase shapes.

I decided to use Red Heart Anne Geddes baby yarn (3 weight and a 3.75mm crochet hook) because it's lighter than the regular worsted weight that I usually use for my projects and it makes the flower less bulky for the card.

There are tons of free crochet flower patterns on the web. I also have one free flower pattern that you can find on my free pattern session on the right column of this blog.

I used a hot glue gun to adhere the crochet flower to the card, fast for my non-patient self.

New published work

It is always so rewarding to see my crochet published, there are so many crocheters out there making beautiful work, so to have the things I create chosen, really makes me feel special.

My Robot Hat Pattern won second place in the Crochet Calendar 2014, I also have my egg hats and a flower blanket pattern included in the calendar.

By the way, the calendar is available for pre-order on Amazon.com

My tea cozy pattern is included in the CraftSanity Magazine Issue 9.

You can download the magazine PDF or order a hard copy here.

Thank you all for your continuous support, I wouldn't be where I am without you!
