Peaks & Valleys Throw

It seems like I am on a blanket/throw rampage, but seriously, blankets and hats are my all time favorite things to crochet.

I've wanted to design a pattern to use the Skein Tones by Lion Brand for awhile and this is what I came up with. I love how the colors all go together and it turned out to go perfectly with my living room furniture and decor!

The pattern is available in my etsy shop and ravelry store.

Field of Hearts

This is the "Field of Hearts" throw. The inspiration for this throw came to me one night, watching a family show with my husband and kids, my daughter was snuggling with me and wearing a cute pair of pajamas that had a little drawing in between bears that made me think of this.

I decided to use this deep forest green and a bright white to contrast and show the pattern sharply.

The crochet pattern is available in my etsy shop and ravelry store.

Honeycomb Hat

I am so very proud to present you my newest design, the Honeycomb Hat! I have been sitting on this design for a long while, mostly because I was having a hard time finding the time to sit down and write the pattern when so many things are pulling me in different directions. You know, the usual... kids, home, activities... ha! Isn't that just how life goes? But I finally managed to sit down and record a support video, write the pattern and get the ball rolling!
What do you think? Would you make one?

Confetti Socks

Believe it or not, I don't like making things in pairs, however, by completely changing the colors of each sock, I tricked myself into making 4 pairs of socks and I loved every minute of it. I used Scheepjes Softfun Aquarel, which is a really nice and soft DK weight yarn and it's offered in some gorgeous colors!

Have you tried making crochet socks before?

The pattern is available on ravelry, my website and on etsy, too!

Gradient Scarf

A couple of years ago I went to the CGOA (Crochet Guild of America) conference in Charleston, SC and I bought this beautiful yarn. I had no idea what I was going to make with it, I just knew it was calling my name.

It took me quite awhile for me to figure out what to do with it, as I don't usually use this weight for my designs.  Well, I am pleased with the way it turned out, this is a great accessory to add a pop of color to a neutral outfit!

The linked stitches make a solid fabric, it doesn't have holes like a regular double crochet or half double crochet fabric does and the simply edging gives it a nice polished look.

The pattern is available in all my shops. | Ravelry | Website | Etsy

Fireside Blanket

I have been wanting to make a white-ish blanket for awhile to put it on the foot of my bed and then the other day when we went Whidbey Island for my husband to run a marathon, we stayed at a vacation rental home and they had a cream colored chevron crocheted blanket and I thought "that is it, I've got to make mine!".
Once we returned home, I started working and the Fireside Blanket came to life.
The texture of this blanket is my favorite thing about it, nothing is more satisfying than transforming plain solid yarn into something beautiful with your own hands, it is truly a special thing.
These amazing photos were captured by Amanda Tipton Photography - I just adore her work!
What do you think? Are you ready to make one?
The pattern will soon be available in my ravelry store, etsy shop and website

Lemon Slices - Free Crochet Pattern

The other day my kids had a lemonade stand in front our house, it seems like it has become a tradition to put the lemonade stand up at least once a year. They make the lemonade from scratch and I even think that squeezing the lemons is one of their favorite parts of the whole process.

So being the crochet addict that I am, I decided to make some lemon slices to dress up the stand and after putting some pictures on instagram, I had some requests for the pattern, so I thought I'd write it up for you.

Supplies:
- Worsted weight yarn in yellow and white
- Crochet hook 4.00mm
- Yarn needle
- Scissors

Round 1: With the white yarn, make a magic ring. Chain 1 to start, single crochet 8 inside of the ring and pull the tail to close the gap. Finish the last single crochet by joining the yellow yarn, like you see on the picture below. (8 sc)

Note: you can fasten off the white if you prefer, I just left it hanging on the back because we will reuse it in round 6.

Round 2: With the yellow yarn, 2 sc in each stitch around. (16 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc in the same stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch* 8 times. (24 sc)
Round 4: *2 sc in the same stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts* 8 times. (32 sc)
Round 5: *2 sc in the same stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts* 8 times. (40 sc)
Round 6: Join the white yarn and working on the front loops only (see picture below), make 1 slip stitch in each stitch around. Fasten off the white yarn leaving a long tail (about 50 inches)

Round 7: Working with the yellow yarn and on the back loops only (see picture below), make 1 slip stitch in each stitch around. Fasten off the yellow yarn leaving a long tail for sewing the lemon in half (about 15 inches)

Using the yarn needle, make 8 walls by going through the center of the lemon, under and through the front to make it look like this:

Fasten off the white yarn and weave the white yarn ends.
Now, using the yellow yarn tail, fold the lemon in half and whip stitch the two sides together to close it shut. Fasten off and weave in the tail.

This is it, your lemon slice is ready!

You can use different colored yarn to make different kind of citrus, like limes or oranges, for example. Enjoy!

Cobblestones Throw Crochet Pattern

It's February and a new pattern has been published, it is the Cobblestones Throw.
I love the colors I picked, I was a little skeptical in the beginning because you know, I am always making super colorful stuff, but it turned out better than I imagined.
This is a great pattern to work on, after awhile you can remember the repeats and don't even have to look at the graph. I made the whole things while watching TV with my husband in the evenings.
If you wish to give it a try, the pattern is available on ravelry, craftsy, etsy and my website, too.

Foundation Single Crochet (fsc)

Foundation single crochet has become one of my favorite ways to start my projects! Why? Well, for many reasons, for example:

- when working on a hat or a garment from the bottom up, the foundation single crochet gives you the much needed stretch.
- it's easier! Yes, I'm not kidding! Once you get the hang go it you will be amazed at how simple it really is. One of my favorite things about it is that you don't have to wrestle with the tight starting chain when using this method.
- it doesn't twist like the regular chain + single crochet would (pictured below):

So, let's do it!
Start with a slip knot on your hook:

Chain 2:

Insert your hook in the second stitch from the hook (the first chain you made). Yarn over and pull up a loop:

Yarn over and pull up through one loop. This creates what we call the "chain".

Yarn over and pull up through both loops.  Your first fsc is done!

Now, to create more stitches, you insert your hook in "the chain" (where the pin is in the picture below). Yarn over, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through both loops.
Repeat until you have the desired number of single crochets.

Cheers!
