I have been thinking about making a market bag for awhile, but I wanted to do make it with a different material other than cotton, so I thought jute would be a good alternative.
Supplies:
- Leather bottom 31,5 x 9,6 cm (I bought this one)
- Jute (I used almost two balls of this Jute)
- Crochet hook 4.0mm
- Scissors
Skill level: Easy
Finished size: 12" tall excluding handles
Abbreviations:
- Chain = Ch
- Sc = Single Crochet
- Hdc = Half Double Crochet
- Sl St = Slip Stitch
Instructions:
Make 2 sc in each hole of the leather bottom, join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn.
Round 1: 1 sc in each stitch around, join with a sl st. Ch 2 (counts as a hdc now and throughout), turn.
Round 2: *1 hdc in the next 3 sts, ch 3, skip 3 stitches* repeat around, join with a sl st. Ch 2, turn.
Round 3-18: Repeat round 2.
Round 19: 1 sc in each stitch around. Fasten off.
Finder your center and mark the position where you want to put your handles. Join the jute, ch 30 for each handle, sl st in place, then single crochet around the whole top, including the handles to make it nice and sturdy. Fasten off.
Weave in any loose ends.
Enjoy!
